A sixth season of the TORA British GT Esports Championship has been announced with 13 races over seven meetings on Forza Motorsport 7 for Xbox One and PC. Organised by Motorsport UK sanctioned online racing club The Online Racing Association, the series has been the official Esports brother of the real world Intelligent Money British GT Championship since 2015.
While other championships are rushing to set up an Esports offering in the wake of Covid-19, the SRO’s British series has already hit heights larger championships can only dream of. The 2019 season saw 200 entries to the series, which thanks to Turn10 Studio’s CrossPlay feature, allows players on console and PC to race against each other at the same time, on the same track.
The 2020 TORA British GT Esports Championship again uses Forza Motorsport as its platform, which gives complications in that only three of the real world venues are included in the game. The organising team have therefore picked out a selection of other circuits to deputise for Oulton Park, Snetterton’s 300 circuit and Donington Park. To add further variety to the series, the team have also chosen to visit two different virtual circuits in place of the double visit to Donington Park the real world competitors make this year.
The calendar for the 13 round championship is:
June 14 – Road Atlanta – 2x 30mins
June 28 – Hockenheim GP (Race 2: wet) – 2x 30mins
July 19 – Silverstone GP – 1x 60mins
August 9 – VIRginia International Raceway – 2x 30mins
August 23 – Spa-Francorchamps – 2x 30mins
September 6 – Brands Hatch GP – 2x 30mins
September 20 – Nurburgring GP (Race 2: night) 2x 30mins
“Last year’s championship attracted more than 200 entries,” Ben Green, President of The Online Racing Association told BritishGT.com. “A number we expect to increase in 2020 thanks to the additional, mainstream interest esports is currently experiencing. Indeed, our endurance events in 2020 have attracted a record number of gamers and I see no reason why that won’t be reflected in British GT, which is traditionally one of our most popular real-world collaborations.”
